The Greek Orthodox Metropolis of San Francisco Young Adult Fall Retreat will be held Friday, November 4 through Sunday, November 6, 2022, at Saint Nicholas Ranch and Retreat Center in Squaw Valley, California. Join with other Orthodox young adults from throughout the west for a weekend of fellowship, prayer and inspiring presentations.

The retreat theme for this year’s Young Adult Fall Retreat is “Mind, Body, and Soul: Our Journey to Wellness.” The speakers for this year’s retreat are George Papageorge, L.M.F.T., Rev. Father Timothy Pavlatos, L.M.F.T. and Dr. Pericles Ioannides, MD, each one with years of experience in their field of work. George Papageorge is a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist with a counseling practice in Pleasanton, California. For over 30 years he has offered empathy-based therapy to young people, couples, and families. Rev. Father Timothy Pavlatos has been an ordained priest with the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese since 1995 and is a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist, and a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional. Dr. Pericles Ioannides provides expertise in state-of-the-art technology using radiation to target and treat all types of cancer in adults, including lung, brain, spine, head and neck, breast, prostate, gynecological, sarcoma and skin cancers.

The retreat schedule includes a Work Project at the Monastery of the Life-Giving Spring. On Sunday morning, Divine Liturgy will be held at the Monastery, followed by breakfast, a final session, and a group photo, with the retreat ending around 1:00 p.m.

Profile George Papageorge

GEORGE PAPAGEORGE, L.M.F.T.

George is a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist with a counseling practice in Pleasanton, California. For over 30 years he has offered empathy-based therapy to young people, couples, and families.

George is also a professor of Family Therapy in the graduate school of counseling psychology at Santa Clara University. As Director of Family Wellness Ministry for the Metropolis of San Francisco, he and his vibrant team bring relevant wellness ministries to the life of the church; offering relationship workshops, including marriage, parenting, addiction, and mental health education. George enjoys integrating evidenced based psychology with the riches of our Orthodox faith. George and his wife Kim have two adult children, Olivia & Petros.

FR. TIMOTHY PAVLATOS, L.M.F.T.

Fr. Timothy Pavlatos currently serves St. Katherine Greek Orthodox Church in Chandler, AZ. Prior to his assignment, he served as Director of the Family Wellness Ministry in the Metropolis of San Francisco from 2015 to 2018.

Ordained to the Priesthood in 1995 in Phoenix Arizona, he has served four parishes and three mission churches. He is a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist, and a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional. He held a private practice as a therapist for six years in Oregon, while also teaching courses as an adjunct professor at George Fox University’s graduate program of Counseling, in “Spirituality & Clinical Praxis”, as well as “Interpersonal Neurobiology and Trauma.” He has lectured and conducted retreats in Orthodox Churches and Metropolises of all jurisdictions on Marriage, Parenting, Addictions, Orthodox Spiritual Life, Trauma Informed Care, and Stress & Resiliency, and the integration of Orthodox Spirituality in the therapeutic process of counseling and human relationships. He holds a bachelor’s in Psychology, a Master of Divinity, a Masters in Pastoral Counseling, and a Certificate in Marriage & Family Therapy. He and his wife Presvytera Victoria have been married since 1995 and have 9 children between the ages of 8 and 25 and two grandchildren.

Profile Pericles Ioannides

DR. PERICLES IOANNIDES, MD

Pericles Ioannides, MD, provides expertise in state-of-the-art technology using radiation to target and treat all types of cancer in adults, including lung, brain, spine, head and neck, breast, prostate, gynecological, sarcoma and skin cancers.

“We have a unique ability in radiation oncology to offer treatment to cure cancer, improve our patients’ quality of life and most importantly, provide hope to our patients,” Dr. Ioannides says. “I strive to treat every patient like they are a member of my family and pray for their healing and recovery.” While in medical school, Dr. Ioannides’s roommate developed lymphoma and was cured with radiation therapy. “He has inspired my pursuit of treating cancer,” he explains. Dr. Ioannides has published several peer-reviewed articles and has lectured and presented on topics including neuroscience, proton therapy, lung cancer, salivary cancers, and spine metastasis. He earned his neuroscience B.S. degree from Indiana University School of Psychology and Brain Sciences. He studied and published on the topic of wellness, specifically the effect of stress on neuron structure in the brain. Away from work he enjoys running and spending time with his wife and son.
