The Metropolis Missions & Evangelism Ministry was founded in 1991 by His Eminence Metropolitan Anthony, of blessed memory, and a group of dedicated lay leaders, whose vision was to plant parishes, share our faith, and grow Orthodoxy on the west coast.
Guided by the The Great Commission: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely Iam with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:19-20), this ministry is focused on aiding and developing an Orthodox practice of evangelism and mission in our parishes and their parishioners. This is accomplished by:
Educating our priests and parishes on the current reality of the American mission field
Equipping our priests and parishes with resources for evangelism and catechism
Engaging our priests and parishioners through workshops and conferences
Mentoring and cultivating our current missions into self-sustaining parishes
Strategically planting mission parishes throughout the Metropolis, and working with the Metropolitan to identify clergy to provide for their spiritual needs.
